Fine Scale reproduction of an SBB System N repeater signal, used to repeat the information of a signal when its visibility may be insufficient. This version features two lights, yellow and green, and is identified by its characteristic white reflective plate with two black stars.

Repeater signals are used when the visibility of the following signal is obstructed. They allow its information to be displayed again at a closer point. From a repeater signal onwards, the available distance no longer guarantees braking from the maximum authorised speed, making it a particularly distinctive element in certain signalling situations.

The signal head is made from high-quality 3D-printed plastic, while the mast, ladder, platform and railings are made from photo-etched brass, providing the high level of detail characteristic of the Fine Scale range.

The external dimensions are 47 mm high, 5 mm wide and 15 mm deep, measured from the foot of the base and excluding the installation cylinder. It operates at 16 V DC and features integrated resistors. The set also includes two different control cabinets to choose from and install according to the needs of each scene.

Aspects this signal can display

  • Yellow – Warning: repeats a restrictive indication, informing the driver that the train’s movement must be adapted to the situation shown by the following signal.
  • Green – Clear: repeats a clear indication when the following signal permits the train to continue without an additional speed restriction.

Where is this signal used?

The repeater signal is mainly installed when the visibility of the following signal is limited by track layout, infrastructure, curves or other visual obstacles. Its function is to repeat the information of that signal and improve its visibility for the driver.

In System N, the white plate with two black stars specifically identifies a repeater signal. System N began to be introduced in 1986, making this signal suitable for Swiss railway installations from the end of Era IV and throughout Eras V and VI up to the present day.

Why add this signal to your layout?

A repeater signal allows you to reproduce a less common and particularly interesting operating situation within Swiss System N railway signalling. Its distinctive two-star plate adds variety compared with main and distant signals, while the Fine Scale photo-etched brass construction provides a high level of realism.

Applications on your layout, perfect for recreating

  • Areas with limited visibility of the following signal.
  • Approaches to SBB stations.
  • Curved sections or areas with visual obstructions.
  • System N signalling sequences.
  • Swiss railway installations from the late 1980s to the present day.
