SBB System N Distant Signal – 2 Lights with Entry Signal Advance Indication

Fine Scale reproduction of an SBB System N distant signal, part of the Swiss light signalling system in use since 1986. This version features two lights, yellow and green, together with a fixed entry signal advance indication plate.

System N distant signals are recognised by their characteristic white reflective square frame, which clearly distinguishes them from main signals, identified by a white circle. The upper plate indicates that the next signal is an entry signal.

The signal head is made from high-quality 3D-printed plastic, while the mast, ladder, platform and railings are made from photo-etched brass, providing the high level of detail characteristic of the Fine Scale range.

The external dimensions are 49 mm high, 5 mm wide and 15 mm deep, measured from the foot of the base and excluding the installation cylinder. It operates at 16 V DC and features integrated resistors. The set also includes two different control cabinets to choose from and install according to the needs of each scene.

Aspects this signal can display

• Yellow – Warning: announces that the following main signal is displaying a stop aspect and allows the train’s movement to be adjusted in advance.
• Green – Clear: announces a clear aspect at the following signal when no specific speed indication is displayed.

Where is this signal used?

The distant signal is used to provide advance information about the following main signal, allowing the driver to adapt the train’s speed with sufficient warning. In this version, the upper plate additionally indicates that the next signal is an entry signal.

System N began to be introduced in 1986 and coexists with the earlier System L on the Swiss railway network. This signal is therefore particularly suitable for reproducing railway installations from the end of Era IV and throughout Eras V and VI up to the present day.
