Illuminated SBB indicator for System N signals, designed to complement compatible signals and reproduce the numerical and auxiliary indications characteristic of this Swiss signalling system.

The indicator incorporates a yellow LED and features a lateral slot in the display for the selected indication. The set includes one photo-etched brass sheet containing the numbers 3 to 14, the letter V and a horizontal line. The required insert is cut from the photo-etched sheet and inserted laterally into the display.

The housing combines high-quality 3D-printed plastic with structural elements in photo-etched brass. Its dimensions are 5 × 5 × 5 mm and it is designed for N scale (1:160).

It is compatible with SBB System N signals prepared for the installation of an indicator. The resistor and diode are supplied but must be soldered after fitting the indicator to the signal. The resistor is connected to the negative pole (–) and the diode to the positive pole (+). Without the resistor installed, the LED must not be connected to more than 2 V; once the supplied components have been soldered, it can operate at 16 V DC.

Indications this indicator can display

  • Numbers 3–14: reproduce numerical speed indications. In System N, the displayed number represents the speed in tens of km/h.
  • V – Advance warning: indicates that speed must be reduced in order to be able to stop at the signal located two signals ahead.
  • Horizontal line – Occupied track: reproduces the indication associated with entry into an occupied track.
  • Flashing horizontal line – Short movement: with external flashing control, this indication can also be reproduced.

Where is this indicator used?

System N uses numerical indications to provide information about permitted speeds. Depending on the signal aspect, the number can announce a speed that will apply ahead or indicate the speed applicable from the signal itself.

The same indicator can also reproduce certain auxiliary indications. The supplied photo-etched brass sheet allows the appropriate indication to be selected for each signal, with the corresponding insert cut out before being fitted into the display.

Why add this indicator to your layout?

The speed indicator is one of the most characteristic elements of the Swiss System N. It allows more complete and realistic signalling configurations to be reproduced, adapting each signal to the required speed or indication at a specific point on the layout.

Applications on your layout, perfect for recreating

  • System N numerical speed indications.
  • Speed announcements and speed indications.
  • Advance warning using the V indication.
  • Entry into an occupied track.
  • Short movement indication using flashing illumination.
  • SBB stations and lines equipped with System N.
