Fine Scale reproduction of an SBB System N main signal, part of the Swiss light signalling system in use since 1986. This version features three lights — red, yellow and green — together with a fixed entry signal advance indication plate.

This plate is a specific identification element of System N and informs the driver that the next signal is an entry signal. The main signal is also recognisable by the characteristic white reflective circle surrounding the signal lights.

The signal head is made from high-quality 3D-printed plastic, while the mast, ladder, platform and railings are made from photo-etched brass, providing the high level of detail characteristic of the Fine Scale range.

The external dimensions are 49 mm high, 5 mm wide and 15 mm deep, measured from the foot of the base and excluding the installation cylinder. It operates at 16 V DC and features integrated resistors. The set also includes two different control cabinets to choose from and install according to the needs of each scene.

Aspects this signal can display

  • Red – Stop: requires the train to stop before the signal.
  • Yellow – Warning: indicates that the next signal is displaying a stop aspect.
  • Green – Clear: authorises movement at the maximum permitted speed for the route when no additional speed indication is displayed.

Where is this signal used?

This variant is used when it is necessary to inform the driver that the next signal is the entry signal of a station. The upper plate allows this situation to be identified in advance and complements the information provided by the main signal aspects.

System N began to be introduced in 1986 and coexists with the earlier System L on the Swiss railway network. This signal is therefore particularly suitable for reproducing railway installations from the end of Era IV and throughout Eras V and VI up to the present day.

Why add this signal to your layout?

The presence of the entry signal advance indication plate makes it possible to reproduce a specific and characteristic configuration of Swiss signalling. The combination of functional lighting, Fine Scale construction and photo-etched brass details adds a high level of realism to stations, railway approaches and lines equipped with System N.
