Fine Scale reproduction of an SBB System N main signal, part of the Swiss light signalling system introduced in 1986 and developed to simplify signalling through coloured lights and, on variants that require them, numerical speed indications.

System N main signals are easily recognised by the characteristic white reflective circle surrounding the signal lights. This version reproduces a three-light main signal equipped with red, yellow and green lights and without a numerical speed indicator.

The signal head is made from high-quality 3D-printed plastic, while the mast, ladder, platform and railings are made from photo-etched brass, providing the high level of detail characteristic of the Fine Scale range.

The external dimensions are 45 mm high, 5 mm wide and 15 mm deep, measured from the foot of the base and excluding the installation cylinder. It operates at 16 V DC and features integrated resistors. The set also includes two different control cabinets, allowing you to choose the most suitable version for each location.

Aspects this signal can display

  • Red – Stop: requires the train to stop before the signal.
  • Yellow – Warning: indicates that the next signal is displaying a stop aspect.
  • Green – Clear: authorises movement at the maximum permitted speed for the route when no additional speed indication is displayed.

Where is this signal used?

System N main signals are used to regulate and protect railway movements both in stations and on open lines. With stop, warning and clear aspects, this three-light version is suitable for reproducing common entry, departure, route protection and block signalling situations.

System N began to be introduced in 1986 and coexists with the earlier System L on the Swiss railway network. This signal is therefore especially suitable for reproducing Swiss railway installations from the end of Era IV and throughout Eras V and VI up to the present day.

Why add this signal to your layout?

Signalling is one of the elements that most clearly defines the identity of a railway infrastructure. This model allows you to add a characteristic SBB System N main signal to your layout, combining functional lighting with a highly detailed Fine Scale structure. The photo-etched brass ladder, platform and railings provide an especially refined level of detail for realistic Swiss railway scenes.
